fundraiser - update

Access Sport Progress 1.png

At the time of writing this, our team of 38 members have been able to cover a phenomenal 1,387km in just 11 days for our chosen charity Access Sport.  We have done this through endless hours of cycling, running, walking and rowing, both at home and outdoors.  During this exercise we have been taking pictures of where we have ended up on the quest to add more miles to our total, some of which can be seen above!

There is a great sense of positivity within the group and we are beginning to form a community with some healthy competition to keep the motivation high. We are excited to continue on this (theoretical) journey around the UK and cannot wait to push ourselves even harder for Access Sport to ensure that every child has the opportunity to enjoy physical activity as we are during this challenge.

So far we have raised £425 of our £1000 target. If you would like to donate please click the button below.

Fundaiser - Update

black lives matter - educate yourself

JUly 2020

A number of our members have come together to form a focus group to bring about positive change, with the aim of using our sport to promote diversity and inclusivity within our club, university and the wider community.

Our actions will involve organising collaborative events with minority groups within the university and raising awareness to support equality amongst all members of society.

One of the ways we have chosen to educate our members and the wider public is through the use of social media to share useful tools, articles, videos and more.

With recent events highlighting the overwhelming racial inequalities at the forefront of our minds, we have put together a list of different sources relating to racism and Black Lives Matter.

All of these resources have helped us to navigate the current situation in some way, whether that be through developing greater compassion or understanding of the history which underpins current events. We hope that by sharing these they will benefit others in a similar way.

fundraiser for access sport

JUly 2020

UoN Table Tennis Club are on a fundraising mission - we have put a team together to run, cycle, swim, row and move in whatever ways we can to cover the distance equivalent to the perimeter of the UK (17,819km).  Our target is to complete this challenge by the beginning of the academic year at the University of Nottingham (21st September 2020) for the charity Access Sport.

Access Sport harnesses the proven power of sport to transform young lives. Using sport as an anchor, they help disadvantaged and disabled young people to achieve their full potential by building and supporting thriving community sports clubs, led by inspirational volunteers, in the most disadvantaged urban areas. These clubs provide life-changing opportunities for local, vulnerable young people, whilst creating a lasting, locally-owned community resource.

JUNE 2020

One of our BUCS players, Tiana Dennison, has created a video with some suggestions of films and shows on Netflix which highlight the ongoing oppression of black and minority members of our society.  At the club we place great importance on being inclusive and strongly support the efforts Tiana has made to raise awareness and educate others.  Watch her video below...
